I'm Chris. This is me with Jeanne (she's the pretty one). We're getting married. This website is the story of how I surprised her for all the web to see and what surprises are yet to come.
You may remember this site a little differently. Well, it has changed. So many people wrote to us asking us to keep the story going that, well, that's what we're going to do! I work full time as a "Senior Web Design Ninja" and am working on this site in my free time. As a result, Jeanne says... is under constant development and you may notice things get a little wonky when she gets some work done.
All Jeanne wanted was a "real proposal" (read: a story to tell her friends). So, after 4 years of racking my brain and being 'gently nudged' by my family to marry her, I finally had it. I made a treasure hunt leading from our home in Nashua, NH, to the Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the US. I planned every last detail, from running out of coffee to what time we would arrive. And things couldn't have worked out better - not to say there weren't problems!
As a web professional, I exercised my marketing chops to tell the world what I was doing... everyone but Jeanne. Having blocked her computer from the site and disabling her StumbleUpon button (ok, I broke it), I secretly photographed her for two weeks leading up to the big day and posted the photos with a quote to this website - and promoted it as best I could. I was absolutely blown away by the feedback we got. Mashable did a piece on us, we appeared in The Guardian (someone even mailed us a copy!), and we busted 30,000 pages by the time I popped the question.
This isn't like normal blogs. This is a story, that I'm going to share with you as it unfolds. You start at the beginning and work your way to the end. Follow along as I surprise her with the coolest proposal I could conceive and then, someday, you could be watching when Jeanne says... "I do!"

Chris, your website was mentioned in an English national newspaper yesterday and I thought I’d have a look. It’s such a lovely idea. Good luck! Clare from London

Clare - if you read this… I would REALLY love a copy if it ran in print… can we talk? It ran in The Guardian, right? (I saw the site - I work in the newspaper biz)

I read about your romantic mission in the Guardian newpaper, in the UK; so had to have a look. I think it’s a great idea! Good luck and I hope Jeanne doesn’t find out! x

September 30th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Yea, me hates that. And I ain’t gots no shame in deleting useless comments from people that don’t get it (and can’t spell) either. This is a special place - a gift - so keep your rain off of my parade. Thank you very much. (not you, Petra, you rock)

Chris: Your creativity has no bounds. Most women only dream of their lover doing something like this!!! Your warm and gooey love for Jeanne is evident, and this act will remain in her heart for most, if not all, of your lives together. Have a blast doing it, enjoy the madness and wallow in the love that you feel for Jeanne and she, in turn will melt in your arms, oh ok, enough of the romantic babble. Keep it going!! and Enjoy the results. Love from Mom & Dad Macomber XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
